More homes are being lost to wildfire than ever before, because more people are living "out in the wild" than ever before. In Texas, 85% of wildfires occur within 2 miles of a community, not a house, a whole community. We call these areas WUI (Wildland/Urban Interface) and for a Fire Dept they present a whole new set of challenges. More than 90% of all wildfires are started by people, so it goes to reason that if more people are living near the wild we are going to see more wildfires, and if more homes are near the wild we are going to see more homes threatend by wildfire. Central Texas Wildfire HEAT provides Education & Assistance so that we can do more that just prevent a wildfire, we can survive one.
